I've just observed many Java errors are fixed by using the right Java version. As Ryan pointed out I had to manually change the path in the Settings tab in AtLauncher. chromium-no-extras (requires java-runtime-headless) (make). I'm not an experienced modder or programmer and like I said, I don't use ATLauncher. Download and install it it won't overwrite preexisting Java installs as Java themselves know different programs may only work on old versions.

Unfortunately I am away from my PC so I can't give links or very detailed information, but consider downloading a Legacy version of Java 8 (there is an archives page managed by Oracle themselves). To fix the issue I downloaded a legacy version of Java and redirected the actual instance to use that version instead. Minecraft 1.12.2 uses specific Java versions and I believe this is true for most versions of Minecraft.
